April 19, 2013 Detroit Music Awards

The Detroit Music Awards are always an intense, glittery, all dressed up to get sweaty good time. Detroit Metro Mashup photojournalists were in the thick of it last Friday, April 19, getting sweaty with everyone at the 22nd annual DMA. The music was hot, the beer was cold, musicians were starry-eyed happy, fans were excited, and flashes of cameras and skin lit up the place.

We caught a lot of it on digital “film,” taking over 350 photos that we have winnowed down to 65 or so (final count not in as of this writing) along with a couple of short videos. If you were there, we might have caught you, so check out the photos by clicking the photo pile above. People and groups we definitely did catch and toss into the photo pile include (in approximate initial order of appearance in our photos; additional photos of some in performance appear later in the sequence):

Dixon and his digital violin
Glitter Trash, including Jenna Talia, their biggest fan Michelle, and Showtime Dan
Cybertribe and Haf Life, in glamour clothes and later monkeyed up on stage
Sweet Crystal with David Winans
Tom Daldin of Under the Radar Michigan
Lindy Lenk and her husband Norman Demetrios Fletcher
Blackbyrd Revue
Carolyn Striho, her bandmates and friends
Matt Lee of Detroit Music Awards Foundation
Vinnie Dombroski of Sponge, Orbitsuns, and Crud
Keith Kaminski of the Motor City Horns
Insane Clown Posse
Harry Balk of Inferno Records and Motown
Ife Mora
Jill Jack
Todd Glass, drummer with the Muggs and many others

Martha Reeves

Although they weren’t physically present, Detroit natives Kid Rock and Tim Allen made appearances via video, showing their support for Detroit and it’s musicians and talent.

The complete list of winners at the DMA is available on their website at http://www.detroitmusicawards.com, but the truly complete list would include everyone who attended the Awards, it was that good a time and we look forward to doing it again next year.
