December 2, 2013 - The Bright Light Show

The Big Bright Light Show was held for the 8th time in downtown Rochester beginning December 2nd and we were there to take video and photos of the million or more lights that cover the building facings along Main Street in the business district, from University Drive to South Bridge. There were reindeer (real ones!), talented carolers, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, and at least one bazillion people enjoying the festivities. The foot traffic was so thick at the main corner of the event just before the lighting that it was nearly impossible to move for a while, but everyone was happy and we witnessed no holiday temper tantrums.

Joining Santa Claus in throwing the light switch was 7 Action News anchor Dave LewAllen. We don’t have a picture of this, unfortunately, because we literally couldn’t move through the throngs to get back to the stage. We also spotted Under the Radar Michigan’s host, Tom Daldin, in the crowd. The lights are beautiful and watching them illuminate kick-started the holidays for us. After the lighting, people began to rapidly disperse, heading into some of the many fine eateries and shops of downtown Rochester. We went to Sanders, got peppermint mochas, and drank them out front while people-watching. We hope you enjoy our video and photos and will like them on Facebook (button below). If you like one well enough to purchase it, just let us know.
