June 7-8, 2014 - Waterford Peacefest

he 2014 Waterford Peacefest was held this year on the 7th and 8th of June at the L.A. Cafe and Java. During most of the year the L.A. Cafe is an outstanding coffee shop with excellent sandwiches and other food but, once every summer, it is the focal point of a celebration of artisans, craftpersons, musicians, and food purveyors.

This was the 6th annual Peacefest and it hosted at least 14 bands, more than a hundred artisans, and several food trucks. There were some new faces among the vendors and it was nice to see some of the returning ones. There was clothing, pottery, jewelry, hula hoops, metal sculpture, temporary tattoos, fine art paintings, photography, glassworks, music, artistically modified furniture, cosmetics, and, one of our personal favorites returned, the Basic Earth Elements' Magick Needs Apothecary. It’s always groovy so take a look at our photos to see what we mean and to whet your appetite for next year!

The Peacefest was initiated by the L.A. Cafe and Java, owned by Darren and Heidi Graunstadt and located at 5815 Dixie Highway, Waterford, MI. The Cafe was established in 1986 and features a variety of straight and flavored coffees, lattes, cappuccinos, etc., in addition to a being a vegetarian and vegan restaurant.
